Dear colleagues,

I would like to inform you about the 4th International Conference on Advanced Joining Processes 2025 (AJP2025) which will take place in Coimbra (Portugal) 16-17 October 2025 (link). The conference venue is the 4 stars hotel Vila Galé Coimbra which offers excellent facilities for high quality scientific interactions.

This conference is held every two years. The conference is chaired by Lucas F. M. da Silva and co-chaired by Paulo Martins (University of Lisbon, Portugal) and Uwe Reisgen (RWTH Aachen University). The German Scientific Society of Joining (WGF, Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Fügetechnik) supports this conference. The focus is on all advanced methods of joining such as friction stir welding, joining by plastic deformation, laser welding, advanced mechanical joining, adhesive bonding, hybrid joining, etc.

The scientific committee of AJP2025 includes Afonso Reguly (UFRGS - LAMEF, Brazil), Alexander Brosius (TU Dresden, Germany), Antonello Astarita (University of Naples Federico II, Italy), Antonio J. Ramirez (The Ohio State University, USA), Arne Kromm (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), Germany), Carlos Silva (University of Lisbon, Portugal), Chiaki Sato (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan), Chris Nielsen (TU Denmark, Denmark), Christian Garnier (ENIT-INPT, University of Toulouse, France), France Chabert (ENIT-INPT, University of Toulouse, France), Giovanni Meneghetti (University of Padova, Italy), Grzegorz Glinka (University of Waterloo, Canada), Heikki Remes (Aalto University, Finland), Hidenori Terasaki (Kumamoto University, Japan), Holger Fricke (Fraunhofer IFAM, Germany), Iryna Tomashchuk (Université de Bourgogne, France), Jean Pierre Bergmann (Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany), John Goldak (Carleton University, Canada), Jonas Hensel (Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany), Juan Carlos Del Real (Universidad Pontificia Comillas Madrid, Spain), Klaus Dilger (TU Braunschweig, Germany), Luca Goglio (Politecnico di Torino, Italy), Mahmoud Moradi (‪University of Northampton, UK), Maik Gude (Technische Universität Dresden, Germany), Manuel Vieira (University of Porto, Portugal), Marion Merklein (Friedrich-Alexander University, Germany), Mehdi Kasaei (INEGI, Portugal), Peng He (Harbin Institute of Technology, China), Rakesh Goyal (John Deere, USA), Reza Beygi (INEGI, Portugal), Ricardo Carbas (INEGI, Portugal), Rodolphe Bolot (University of Burgundy, France), Shuye Zhang (Harbin Institute of Technology, China), Stefan Böhm (University of Kassel, Germany), Sudarsanam Suresh Babu (University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA), Sullivan Smith (TWI, UK), Thomas Kannengiesser (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), Germany) and Tomasz Chmielewski (Warsaw University of Technology, Poland)

Authors who wish to make a presentation (oral or poster) are requested to submit a short abstract (one single A4 page possibly with a diagram and references) in English, by 30 May 2025. The abstracts should be sent electronically to lucas@fe.up.pt and indicate in the email if you want oral or poster presentation and if you want to be included in the 6th In-situ workshop 2025. The abstract template can be downloaded from the conference web site (link).

Conference proceedings with the accepted abstracts will be available at the registration.

Full papers will be published in a special issue of Journal of Advanced Joining Processes (Elsevier), Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications (SAGE), Discover Mechanical Engineering (Springer), Engineering Manufacturing Letters (University of Porto, Portugal) and in a book of the book series Proceedings in Engineering Mechanics - Research, Technology and Education (Springer), provided they meet the quality standards. The full papers (not compulsory) should be sent to the e-mail lucas@fe.up.pt before 16 October 2025. The text should be in single column format and double line spacing.
